Guidance Department Events

District College Night
A panel of college admissions counselors will address the admissions process from “their side of the desk” at the District College Night. The September 2016 panel included Elon University, The George Washington University, Quinnipiac University, Ramapo College, Sacred Heart University, University of Notre Dame, University of Scranton, and Washington University in St. Louis.

District College Fair
The District College Fair is an opportunity for students of all grade levels to speak with college admissions counselors and learn more about a variety of educational opportunities. The Fair is hosted by the Ramapo Indian Hills High School District every other academic year. In October 2016, over 150 colleges and universities were represented. For planning purposes, the next District College Fair will be held at Ramapo High School in 2018.

Freshman Parents Information Session
A welcome session to Ramapo High School with an overview of what your child can expect academically and extracurricularly. This information session will take place in the Ramapo auditorium as part of the APTS meeting.

Community Service Fair
The Community Service Fair will be held annually at Indian Hills High School during the lunch periods. Non-profit agencies will be distributing information about their organization. Students will also have the opportunity to speak to agency representatives about volunteer opportunities. Students in all grade levels are encouraged to reach out to these organizations. Many volunteer opportunities exist during the school year as well as during summer vacation.

Junior College Night
This presentation by the Guidance Office will provide an overview of the following topics: the use of Naviance in the college search process, college visits, the responsibilities associated with the college process, standardized testing, NCAA eligibility and scheduling options for senior year.

District Financial Aid Night
The Ramapo Indian Hills Guidance departments will host a Financial Aid Specialist from the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA). The HESAA Specialist will review the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) and discuss college funding sources. This program will in the Indian Hills High School Auditorium as an annual event in the fall.

Alumni Assembly
On Friday, January 8th, 2016 during period 8 (1:10 p.m.) there will be an Alumni Assembly in the auditorium. Seniors are invited to attend. Members of the Class of 2015 will speak about their transition to college life. In order to attend this assembly you must sign up in Naviance and print out a confirmation, which needs to be signed by the teacher of the class that you will be missing. Only with a signed pass will you be allowed into the assembly. If you are in senior commons that period please come to the guidance office by Thursday, January 7th for a pass. As always, Naviance closes a day before the scheduled event so be sure to print your pass out by Thursday the 7th.

Sophomore Night
Parents of Sophomores and Sophomore students are invited on Thursday, January 14th to a Guidance Information Session offering insight to maximize preparation for the College Application Process. Information about College Testing, the College Search Process and Planning for a Productive Summer will be some of the topics addressed. The program will begin 7:00 p.m. in the Ramapo High School Auditorium.

Senior Scholarship Awards
On June 8th at 7:00 p.m., scholarships are presented to seniors from private sources and local organizations. A senior will receive formal notification through the mail if he/she is receiving a scholarship.

Senior Merit Awards
On June 9th at 8:30 a.m. (period 2) assembly to recognize outstanding achievement of our seniors in the academic areas.
