The Ramapo High School cafeteria was transformed into a hub of humanitarian service as the Ramapo Interact Club hosted its first-ever food packaging event. The initiative was a resounding success, demonstrating the incredible power of student leadership and community partnership.
Under the guidance of student president Reese Fishman, the club partnered with the international nonprofit Rise Against Hunger. Reese discovered the organization last year and made it her mission to bring their impactful mission to Ramapo before her graduation. Through extensive fundraising, meticulous planning, and a generous 50% sponsorship from the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary Club, that vision became a reality.

The team of roughly 55 student and community volunteers worked together to successfully package 10,000 meals in a single session. The final destination for these packaged meals will be confirmed in June. Similar events have sent food to families in need living in the Philippines, demonstrating the truly global impact our local community efforts can have.
Advisors Tom Basili and Alex Fylstra expressed immense pride in the students’ dedication. "We are very proud of these students," Basili noted, adding that the club hopes to make this a recurring tradition at Ramapo in the coming years.
The district applauds the Interact Club for their hard work and for proving that when our students "tread softly" and work together, they can make a world of difference.
