On Tuesday, February 3, Ramapo High School’s Student Assistance Counselors (SACs) hosted a Gambling Awareness event in the cafeteria to help students navigate the growing presence of sports betting and gambling apps.

With the Super Bowl approaching and betting platforms more accessible than ever, the goal was to dispel common myths with hard facts. Students learned that while the industry saw record revenues of nearly $7 billion in New Jersey last year, the vast majority of those profits come from a small percentage of players who are often struggling with addiction.

During the lunch periods, students visited the SAC table to test their knowledge and enter a drawing for a Starbucks gift card. "We wanted to provide a fun way to discuss a serious topic," said SAC Jasmen Mantashian. "It’s about giving students the tools to recognize the difference between casual entertainment and high-risk behavior."

The initiative will continue this Thursday at Indian Hills High School. Given the universal relevance of these digital risks, this awareness campaign serves as a vital resource for our entire district community.
