2020 RHS Freshmen/New Student Laptop Distribution & Live Stream Outreach Program

Dear Parents/Guardians and Freshmen/New Students,

We know that this summer is full of questions and concerns regarding the start of the 2020-2021 school year. With that in mind, we have made a point to prioritize the distribution of laptop computers to our Freshmen/New students as early as possible in order to get them prepared for the start of our school year. To that end, our Technology Department has been working diligently to prepare the laptops and the building administration has designed a process for distribution that will keep the gatherings at a manageable capacity for this endeavor.

Below there is information regarding the days and times that the laptops will be distributed as well as information about this year’s virtual Freshman & New Student Orientation. We thank you for your attention to this matter and look forward to having you here at Ramapo High School.

Freshmen/New Student Laptop Distribution

We will be distributing student laptops and taking photos for student IDs for all freshmen/new students on Thursday, August 27th and August 28th. We will be following the distribution schedule below. During this event we are requesting that a parent or guardian accompany their child.  For the purposes of traffic flow and management of this process, it is very important that you adhere to the time slot that corresponds to your last name:

Everyone involved in this event is expected to complete a pre screening form (See Below) as well as wearing a face covering, unless when doing so would compromise the health of an individual.

If you have a fever or other signs of illness (cough, shortness of breath, chills, sore throat, GI issues, sudden loss of taste or smell), DO NOT come to the school. If you have been directed by your physician to self-quarantine, DO NOT come to the school.

    • Pay Laptop Insurance via MySchoolBucks
    • Sign-off on AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) and Laptop Agreement by both Parent and Student. This will include the Health Pre-Screening Form (COVID-19 Return-to-School Screening)
  • Additional details on the above requirements including where to find your student’s credentials will be emailed to all parents and student email accounts prior to the distribution dates.  Please check your email early next week.
  • As you arrive at school during your designated time slot, we ask that you make a left turn prior to entering the circle into the faculty parking lot.  After parking in the lot, please walk to the main entrance.  Small groups of parent/guardian and student will enter through the main entrance,  walk to the left and enter the cafeteria.  After completing all steps of the process  with our ITC Department, groups will leave the building through Upper Gym Exit.  Again, you are required to wear a facial covering while on school property, unless when doing so would compromise the health of an individual.

Live Stream Outreach Program

This year Freshmen Orientation will be held on Monday, August 31st from 9:00AM to 11:00AM. Information on the New Student Orientation day/time will be provided soon.  Unlike in years past, to ensure the health and safety of our students, this year’s Outreach Program will be fully remote using a live stream through Zoom’s web platform and only be for students.

Another email will be sent directly to our students’ school email accounts with directions on attending his or her Outreach Group on the morning of Monday, August 31st.

The Outreach Program will be led by Teacher Advisors and Senior Student Ambassadors.

If you have any questions regarding the processes in place for laptop distribution or Freshmen Orientation, please contact Assistant Principal Michael Mancino at [email protected].

Sincerely,
